



Volunteer: Food Programs
Lift Urban Portland provides a host of food and nutrition services. Volunteers from our member congregations, local businesses, and diverse individuals enable us to feed hundreds of people each month. Irving Street Loaves & Fishes Senior Lunch Program on Weekdays: Help set-up and serve lunch at 1816 NW Irving and then clean-up the space (so it can be used for other purposes in the afternoons). Schedule is managed by Pam Porter: pamela.porter503@gmail.com
Meals on Wheels: In partnership with Loaves & Fishes, volunteers deliver lunch to housebound seniors, offering a friendly face as well as nutrition.
When: 10:45 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. regular commitment
Requirements: Background check
Staff the Lift Urban Portland Food Pantry During Open Hours: Feed the Hungry! Greet clients and sign them in, assist with filling food requests, stock shelves, maintain neat shelves and racks, light clean-up duties. Address: 1808 NW Irving, First Immanuel Lutheran Church
When: Food Pantry volunteer shift hours are Tuesdays and Fridays from 11:45 a.m. to 2:15 p.m.
Harvest Share Day is the second Wednesday of each month from 9:45 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.
Choose one or more shifts per month.

Lift Urban Portland Food Warehouse Staff: Help with deliveries, sort donations, prepare items for Food for Kids Backpack Program, and pack up items for Food Pantry or food boxes, light cleaning.
When: Mondays and Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. or by arrangement.
Warehouse Volunteer: (Flexible Scheduling) Job Description: Help sort and pack up donated food. Help get items from the Lift Urban Portland Warehouse to our distribution site (1808 NW Irving).
Food Delivery Person: If you have a vehicle and 30 minutes, you could deliver a food box to a specific hungry person, or get a box of surplus food delivered through our Community Share program to residents at low-income buildings in Downtown and NW. Help feed people and keep food from going to waste! Vehicle, Bike trailer or little red wagon needed.
When: Flexible; ideal times are on Tuesday and Friday afternoons, with options sometimes available on Monday and Thursday.
Shop the Docks: Select fresh produce from the Oregon Food Bank (7900 NE 33rd) and deliver to the Lift Urban Portland Food Pantry (First Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1808 NW Irving Street). May also help put fresh produce away and stock pantry shelves.
When: Monday mornings 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Choose one or more shifts per month.
Requirements: Good-sized vehicle, OFB pass from NWPM.
Friday Morning Trader Joe's Gleaning: Use your large vehicle to pick-up several bags of donated produce and other perishables at about 9:00 a.m. (2 Fridays a month) to be distributed that day. If you don’t have a car, you can still help us sort the donated food at the pantry!
When: Friday mornings 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.
Requirements: Wear gloves, work well with others.
Pantry Stocker: Receive the weekly delivery from the Oregon Food Bank at our Pantry at 1808 NW Irving. Put perishables, refrigerated items and other stock in the proper locations.
When: Thursday mornings at 10:30 a.m.
Requirements: Ability to lift 40 pounds

Team Leaders: We are looking for a few very responsible volunteers who can take the lead for volunteer-run shifts during Food Pantry distribution hours, for stocking, or warehouse work parties. Must be willing to open and close facility and supervise other volunteers.
When: Flexible
Requirements: Background check. Advanced training provided.
Outreach Volunteer: Help recruit volunteers, share information about services, and increase the visibility of Lift Urban Portland through in-person, phone, and online activities.
When: Flexible
Requirements: Thorough knowledge of Lift Urban Portland.
Food for Kids Backpacks Volunteer: Pack-up and deliver bags of snacks, and healthy food to Chapman Elementary School so hungry kids have food for the weekend.
When: Thursdays (during the school year) by 1:30 p.m.
Requirements: Vehicle, ability to lift 40 lbs
Organize a Food Drive to support Lift Urban Portland Food Programs: At your work, school, congregation, or via a party! Assistance available.
When: Anytime
Breakfast Support: NW Tower (Housing Authority residence at 335 NW 19th) offers a resident-organized breakfast on the second Friday of each month and invites a couple more volunteers to get involved and support the effort.
Graphic Artist / Desktop Publisher: Do you enjoy making fliers? We need basic signs that assist food box recipients in learning how many of the various items they’re able to select.
