Meals on Wheels People
Irving Street Senior Lunch Site
In partnership with First Immanuel Lutheran Church and The Meals on Wheels People (formerly Loaves & Fishes), we offer a Senior Hot Lunch program Monday through Friday at First Immanuel Lutheran Church, located at 1816 NW Irving Street.
Our volunteers pick up the meals, set up, assemble, and serve lunch, socialize with guests, and clean up afterwards. Without these volunteers there would be no hot lunch site in Northwest Portland.
Anyone over the age of 60, regardless of income, is invited to the program. Recipients are encouraged to donate toward the cost of their meals, but no one is turned away for lack of payment. A nutritious meal for those in need is not the only outcome of this program: Guests socialize with volunteers and each other, an important part of their daily routine. Community partners often offer a variety of enrichment activities such as movies, music, bingo, and exercise classes before or after lunch.
Lift Urban Portland volunteers also deliver meals to the Trinity Place Adult Daycare and support a Meals-on-Wheels delivery route for neighbors who cannot come to the meal site due to physical limitations.
More than 10,000 nutritious meals are provided each year through these efforts.
