The Irving Street Senior Lunch
A partnership with Meals on Wheels People and First Immanuel Lutheran Church
Daily meals are the feature of the Senior Lunch program, Monday through Friday at First Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1816 NW Irving Street. Our volunteers pick up the meals, set up, assemble, and serve lunch, socialize with guests, and clean up afterwards. Without these volunteers there would be no hot lunch site in Northwest Portland.
Anyone over the age of 60, regardless of income, is invited to the program. Recipients are encouraged to donate toward the cost of their meals, but no one is turned away for lack of payment. A nutritious meal for those in need is not the only outcome of this program: Guests socialize with volunteers and each other, an important part of their daily routine. Community partners often offer a variety of enrichment activities such as movies, music, bingo, and exercise classes before or after lunch.
Lift Urban Portland volunteers also deliver meals to the Trinity Place Adult Daycare, and assist with Meals-on-Wheels delivery routes for neighbors with physical limitations.
